GRADES AND TYPES OF HEARING LOSS

How severe is your hearing loss?
Each person's type and level of hearing loss is unique, and some hearing aids may be more effective than others. Your hearing care professional will consider the type and level of hearing loss you have when recommending a device.

GRADES OF HEARING LOSS

How severe is your hearing loss? This, of course, depends on what level of sounds you can hear. Your hearing care professional will list these levels on an audiogram to determine the degree of hearing loss you have. Hearing losses are also generally grouped into seven levels; mild, mild, moderate, moderate, severe and advanced.

YOU CAN EXPERIENCE FOUR TYPES OF HEARING LOSS.

Unilateral or bilateral hearing loss

  • While unilateral hearing loss is effective in only one ear, bilateral / reciprocal hearing loss is effective in both ears.

symmetrical and asymmetrical

  • Symmetrical hearing loss means that the type and degree of hearing loss in both ears is the same. Asymmetrical hearing loss is a type of hearing loss in which the type and level of hearing loss in both ears is different.

Progressive and sudden hearing loss

  • While procedural hearing loss progresses over time, sudden hearing loss occurs as a result of events such as sudden exposure to a loud sound, accidents, etc. If you think you have sudden hearing loss, we recommend that you talk to your hearing care professional.

Variable/Fluid and fixed hearing loss

  • Also known as variable, in other words, fluctuating hearing loss, this disorder progresses over time, while the degree of fixed hearing loss always remains the same.
