LOSS OF PERCEPTION

Not understanding what you can hear is a bad experience.

WHAT IS LOSS OF PERCEPTION?

Having a hearing loss does not just mean not being able to hear sounds loud enough. Some people have difficulty hearing certain and narrow frequency sounds. This is “loss of perception”; It refers to the situation we define as; means that a person can hear but cannot understand what they hear.

DIFFICULT WORDS

Loss of perception means that some speech sounds are not perceived by the brain and ear, and the distinction between words and speech sounds is indistinguishable – especially for those that are close together.

Your hearing care professional may measure your speech comprehension as a percentage to determine if you have a loss of perception. The percentage of correctly understood words is called the “speech perception score”. This shows the difference between the perfect score of 100% and the score from your test.

INSECURITY

Inability to understand or guess correctly the spoken word or words can also increase your insecurity in your own hearing. This insecurity can sometimes lead to hearing loss. It can lead to “switching off”, that is, mentally inhibiting the use of your existing hearing.
